Many companies in aerospace industry are located in the Chubu region producing 50% of Japan's aircraft parts and products.
Major Japanese aerospace companies including Mitsubishi Heavy Industries and Kawasaki Heavy Industries, which represent Japan’s aerospace industry have large factories with state of art facilities in this area.

In addition, Gifu base of Japan Air Self Defense Force, which is known as Japan's oldest airfield, is also located here.

Taking advantage of this background, development and production of Mitsubishi Regional Jet (MRJ), often recognized as a symbol of the revival of domestic produced jet airliners, are ongoing in this region. Boeing 787 aircraft, the next generation passenger plane, and domestic produced rockets (H-IIA, H-IIB) are also in progress.

Bedsides those, Kawasaki Heavy Industries launched the Aerospace Systems Company in April last year. This business accounts for the company's largest sales, and the company aims to achieve operating income from this business of approximately 70 billion yen in fiscal 2025, which is almost double that in fiscal 2019.

Since the aerospace industry has a large base of related technology fields, it has a wide range of ripple effect to other industries, and it is an important industry that leads the advancement of technology of Japanese industries.

For this reason, the local governments in this region are facilitating formation of aerospace industry clusters by promoting research and development in collaboration with academia, encouraging new entry of small and medium-sized enterprises, and supporting human resource development.

In addition, the local governments here have opened the only museum in Japan specializing aviation and space.
