Okuma develops not only machines but also control devices and software as an integrated machine tool maker

Okuma was founded in 1898, headquartered in Aichi Prefecture.

With a broad product lineup including lathes, machining centers, multi-task machines and grinders, the company develops not only machines but also control devices and software as an integrated machine tool maker.

Having bases in the United States, Germany, Australia, Thailand, China and other locations around the world, the company is engaged in businesses related to a wide range of fields including automobiles, aircrafts, ships, robots, solar power, medical devices etc.

Recently, the company is focusing on the production of smart machines equipped with artificial intelligence and proposing to customers with technologies and products that contribute to improve their productivity.

For example, to respond to increasing demand for automation and unmanned operation technology due to labor shortages, Okuma has developed ARMROID, innovative robot system built into machine tools aiming to automate parts processing and improve productivity.

At exhibitions held in Japan and overseas, ARMROID has received high reputation as an extremely advanced robot system.

Thanks to those achievements the latest business results are strong. Consolidated net sales in fiscal 2018 increased 16.3% compared to the last year to 211,732 million yen, operating income increased 22.6% to 27,575 million yen, and ordinary income increased 24.8% to 28,186 million yen.

In another recent move, it has opened a new plant in Taiwan in August 2018 to expand reach to overseas customers including Asian emerging countries.

At the Taiwan plant the company manufactures high quality and cost effective lathes and vertical machining centers with GENOS brand.

The GENOS brand is a model that achieves low prices by narrowing down its functions to basic specifications while retaining the features of its preceding best-selling model.

It also constructed a new plant and started operation in Kani City, Gifu Prefecture in May 2019.

At the Kani factory it aims to produce a wide variety of products at small volume each with high efficiency by utilizing cutting-edge smart machines and IOTs.
